2x2 inches in size. Identical. Color.
Taken within the past 6 months, showing current appearance.
Full face, front view with a plain white or off-white background.
Between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
Uniforms should not be worn in photographs except religious attire that is worn daily.
Do not wear a hat or headgear that obscures the hair or hairline.
If you new normally wear prescription glasses, a hearing device, wig or similar articles, they should be worn for your picture.
Dark glasses or nonprescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless you need them for medical reasons. A medical certificate may be required.
Your Canada passport photographs must be:
50 mm wide X 70 mm high (2 inches wide X 2 3/4 inches long).

In color or in black and white.
Taken with uniform lighting and not show shadows, glare or flash reflections.
Centered and taken straight on, with face and shoulders centered and squared to the camera.
Taken with a neutral facial expression (eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, no smiling).

Taken in front of a plain white or light-colored background with a clear difference between your face and the background. Photos must reflect/represent natural skin tones.

On the back of one photo
The name and address of the photographer or studio and the date the photo was taken must be provided directly on the back of one photo.
The photographer may use a stamp or handwritten this information. Stick-on labels are unacceptable.
Your guarantor must clearly write on the back of one (1) photo: "I certify this to be a true likeness of(applicant's name)" and sign his or her name (unless you are applying to renew a passport, as no guarantor is necessary for renewals).
Extra details
Glasses, including tinted prescription glasses, may be worn in photos as long as the eyes are clearly visible and there is no glare in the glasses. Sunglasses and red eyes are unacceptable.
There must be no reflection or glare on the face or glasses.
Hats and head coverings must not be worn, unless it is worn daily for religious beliefs or medical reasons. However, your full face must be clearly visible and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.
Your hair can be down.
Shadows are not acceptable. Lighting must be uniform to avoid shadows across the face or shoulders, around the ears or in the background.
Child photos
Child photos must follow the same rules indicated above. Photos must show the child’s head and shoulders only. Parent’s or child’s hands must not appear in the photo.
Passport Canada recognizes the difficulty in obtaining a neutral expression of a newborn and will allow for some tolerance in this regard.
If applying for a one-time replacement passport for a child, you must include a photo that has been taken within one month of the date the application is submitted.
Your Mexico passport photographs must be:
Mexican passport photo are same as US but the outer area or the paper size can be 35mm x 45mm rest are same as US passport specification.
International passport photographs: Most of them are 35mm x 45mm including US, European, African, Taken within the past 90 days, showing current appearance.

How recent must the photos be?
The photos must be no older than 3 months.
What pose should the photos show?
The photo should show a clear, front view, full face of the customer. The customer should be in normal street attire, without hat or dark glasses against a plain white or off-white background. The customer’s expression should be natural, with both eyes open, looking directly ahead. Normal, unexaggerated smiles are acceptable, but unusual expressions and squinting are not. Photos in which the face of the person being photographed is not in focus will not be accepted.
Can hats or religious headgear be worn for the photo?
Unless worn daily for religious reasons, all hats or headgear should be removed for the photo. A signed statement from the applicant must be submitted with the application verifying the item is worn daily for religious reasons. In all cases, no item or attire should cover or otherwise obscure any part of the face.
Can eyeglasses be worn for the photo?
Eyeglasses worn on a daily basis can be worn for the photo. However, there should be no reflections from the eyeglasses that obscures the eyes.

Can work uniforms be worn for the photo?
Uniforms, clothing that looks like a uniform, and camouflage attire should not be worn in photographs except in the case of religious attire that is worn daily. Otherwise, normal street attire should be worn.
Can a parent or guardian appear in the photo of a minor child?
No, the minor child must be the only subject in the photo. Nothing used to support the minor child, whether by mechanical or human means, should be in the camera's frame.
